Check out the final cover art for THE SHEPHERD #YA #Paranormal #Thriller #ComingSoon

And here it is, the moment you've all been waiting for, the final cover art for THE SHEPHERD, my new YA paranormal thriller novel.

Publication Date: Sunday, September 29th, 2013

Genre:  Young Adult (15+) Paranormal Thriller

Skate punks, kleptomaniacs, clairvoyant visions and reincarnation.

16 year old skater Mike Evans has issues. His alcoholic father's unemployed and he's stuck living in a white-trash trailer park after the foreclosure of their family home. The last two years have sucked royally, and to top it all off, he's plagued by clairvoyant visions of strange-grisly events that always come true. Mike loses his best friend, ex-girlfriend treats him like a leper, and his only friend Anita wants to get in his pants––he's clueless. Since his mother died at birth and his father doesn't give a damn, Mike's on his own.

His fortunes begin to change after helping a 14 year old girl named Nadia, the victim of a hit and run on the highway. An intimate bond is forged through an intense night of ministering to her injuries. He suspects Nadia is homeless and an unusual relationship develops as she sneaks into his room nightly for a place to stay.

Mike lives a double life, daylight hours at school, new girlfriend, skating, part-time job, and then his nights spent with Nadia. She's a secret friend, giving him money, listening to his problems when no one else will.

Strangeness abounds as they develop a mutual obsession. Nadia is not an average little girl, but Mike ignores the obvious signs of danger.

Struggling to avert another vision of gruesome death, he must face the evidence that his secret friend is much more than she seems.

Once to Begin, Twice to Bind, and Third Time’s The Charm…

Of all the things Mickey Downey has accomplished in his life, successfully quitting his vices is the one thing he hasn't been able to master. For the first time Mickey is free to have both Mary and Tommy in his life but yet he's never been closer to being pulled back into the criminal world. While Tommy, Ginny and James work overtime to expose a nefarious plot threatening all of them, Kiki and Maeve Downey are hatching their own plots to make Mickey’s dreams come true. With shenanigans afoot in every aspect of Mickey’s life, he may be forced to pick up the weapons he promised Mary he would leave behind in order to protect his children. Can Mary finally accept he might never truly be free of it or will Mickey’s enemies once again succeed in tearing them apart?

Excerpt:

Mary lifted her head and stared dully at his body lounging against the door frame, hands in his pockets, as usual. She was so permeated with emotion and memories and her eyes stung with that dry wetness of too many tears, she couldn’t bother to feel shame at being caught. She said the first thing on her mind.

“You—you never sent them,” Mary stopped and swallowed.

“How come you never mailed them to me?”

Michael came and sat on the bed next to her. When the mattress dipped to accommodate him, her hip tilted into his and she put a hand out onto his thigh to brace herself. His left hand reached out and covered hers, tracing the faint wrinkles on her knuckles. His other hand reached across and gently took the box from her lap.

“I didn’t know where you were. But even if I had, I wouldn’t have. I couldn’t. They were never meant for you to see. I thought by writing them I could somehow exorcise you from my heart, get the memories out of my head.”

“But… After you found us and you started writing Tommy…”

“It was easier with him. There was no resentment and pain with the guilt, just love. We’re family. It was my duty as his father to make sure he knew his siblings at the very least. When I wrote to him it felt like a gift. With you…” his voice trailed off and she could tell by the tightness in his tone he was battling his emotions. “I knew after I saw you again, there would never be a day when I didn’t love you. And I no longer wanted to cut you out of my heart.”

She turned her head and looked into his eyes. They were bloodshot but otherwise dry. “Oh, Michael,” Mary’s voice broke and his face blurred again from her tears. She wiped them impatiently. She moved her body so she could face him more directly. “Don’t you know how much I would have given to have known even half of this?”

His lips tightened and his gaze dropped to their hands. “I thought you did know, Mary. I tried the best I could to show you what you meant to me. Words are cheap. I spent my days lyin’ to people. You know I’m damn good at it. I thought, with you, the words weren’t as important as showing you. When we were together in Brooklyn, you had all of me. All of the real me. The rest of the world had the smoke and mirrors.”

She reached up her hand and laid it flat against his chest. His heart was racing. He grabbed her hand and pressed it to his lips. She scooted closer and laid her head against his neck. She could feel the sinews of his muscles and bones and his breathing seemed labored.

“Spend the night with me. We’ve wasted so much time. You said you came for me. I’m tired of this dance, so tired,” Michael stopped. She lifted her head and watched him grit his teeth before he continued. “I’m done with it. Done with being a gentleman. We can go on as many dates as you like, but I’m not going to be under the same roof with you and not have you in my bed.”

Her friends worry that she has the Fever, Dust-induced insanity. As more monsters strike down citizens, they change their minds. A terrifying trip to the surface of the world, the ancient and abandoned Up, deepens the nightmare. With no world left above, she and the other Crows cannot afford to fail…

MY REVIEW:   ★★★★★

Nightmares take physical shape in the daylight - Awesome Dystopian/Urban Fantasy

I admit I had the opportunity to read this as a beta reader. It was good then, but much better now. I thoroughly enjoyed The Underlighters.

It's a dark and horrific dystopian fantasy where nightmares take physical shape in the daylight. Within this cyberpunk-horror is an intricate tale of a young girl coming of age, learning she is strong and beautiful and worthy of love.

The thin veil separating dream and reality is torn and scattered for poor Janelle. This lovely young lady faces the daily trials of an underground society scraping by on scavengings from the surface, and what little they can produce in their farms.

This is a dark place made darker by strange, inexplicable happenings. Nightmarish creatures that have no right to exist are roaming the tunnels, stealing away the children. Janelle and her friends face hellish monsters born of their darkest fears.

She can hardly tell whether its real or if she's just losing her mind.

Read the Underlighters for an H.P. Lovecraft styled subterranean world of fantasy and horrors. You'll soon find yourself reading all of Michelle Browne's novels.

GOODREADS SOCK PUPPET RATINGS: The many faces of ANDREW DOMONKOS #Goodreads #SockPuppet #Fraud

Please don't feed the sock puppets - they multiply like gremlins

This blog post has a deceptive title,
because there's really only one face of Andrew Domonkos:

But if you don't like that face, thats Okay,
Andrew has 153 faces on Goodreads
11 pages of SOCK PUPPET WONDER!!

And how do I know?
Because, Andrew published his novel 3 days ago on Amazon:

He has ZERO reviews/ratings on Amazon
but Andrew's 153 faces on Goodreads have been very busy:

161 ratings!! (153 of his own--the rest are from disgruntled Authors who have been attacked by Andrew)

And he has 153 votes on Listopia,
holding the #1 position on Best Vampire Books from "New" Authors!!

Andy is a very resourceful man with his 153 Goodreads profiles,
not only is he voting for his own book,
beating all the competition the American way,
he is also giving out shit-tons of 1 star ratings!!
But not for his own book, Oh no!
Those sock puppets are working overtime for Andrew!!

Poor Andrew denies having anything to do with his 153 faces.
But ooops! He made his denial with two different sock puppet profiles named Domonkos and Andrew Domonkos
Oh my!! But its an easy mistake to make when you have 153 profiles to manage....

So come on down to Goodreads, join up, create a few dozen profiles,
and lets start rating some books!
Yeah, lets party like Andrew Domonkos, with overnight sock puppet success!!

**This blog post is satire for the purpose of drawing attention to the sock puppet and troll ratings attacks running unchecked on Goodreads.
My own novels are victims of Andrew Domonkos's sock puppet brigade.
I do not advocate creating more than one Goodreads profile, it is against their Terms of Service and unethical.
